Urgent Advice regarding the Pandemic from Khenchen Namdrol Rinpoche

Rigpa Vision Board

Khen Rinpoche Namdrol is greatly concerned about the serious suffering occurring throughout the world due to the spread and rapid mutation of the Coronavirus. Rinpoche knows that everyone is aware of the situation and encourages us to not become spiritually complacent concerning prayers and practices that will relieve and avert this horrible pandemic that is plaguing us all.

June 11th is the beginning of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, and the tenth day of this month is the birth anniversary of the Lotus-Born Guru, Padmasambhava. For the first ten days of the month, Khen Rinpoche encourages everyone to be especially diligent in praying to Guru Rinpoche, the sole savior of these degenerate times, by accumulating the Vajra Guru Mantra and the Seven-Line Prayer as much as possible. Khen Rinpoche and his sangha community in Nepal are in a strict lockdown environment and will be performing the Shower of Blessings and accumulating hundreds and thousands of mantras during this time.

It is Rinpoche’s prayer that all devoted followers of Guru Rinpoche will join in these efforts wherever they may be in the world and that together we can make a difference and possibly turn around this tide of misfortune and suffering.

Thank you everyone
Sangye Khandro and Lama Chonam

Khen Rinpoche is one of the Rigpa spiritual advisors and the letter is sent on his behalf by the Vision Board.

Message from Khenchen Namdrol Rinpoche

Dear Noble Sangha, Dharma Brothers and Sisters,

As you all know, people all over the world are suffering immensely from the dangerous respiratory pandemic Covid-19, which took millions of lives. And for one and a half years, it has and continues to torment millions, bringing immeasurable suffering and fear to them, mentally and physically. Seeing this unbearable situation, top world scientists and experts had to create new preventive vaccines and medicines. With pure intentions, hundreds and thousands of skilled doctors and nurses risked their lives, bearing hardships day and night continuously to protect the lives of helpless patients, working altruistically on such a vast scale.

Similarly, the great religions of the world which are sources of solace and peace (Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and so forth), and its spiritual leaders have also done various activities according to their respective religious traditions in order to uproot the suffering of this pandemic. Such contributions are inconceivable. Unless one holds perverse, demonic wishes, everyone should respect and rejoice at such activities from the bottom of their hearts.

For beings of the degenerate times, especially Tibetans, Guru Rinpoche, whose compassion and enlightened activities surpass other Buddhas, has accomplished on his end the immortal Vajra Body, free from birth, death, aging, and decay. For the sake of others, he did not passively watch from the dharmakaya, but actually came to Tibet and physically walked the earth, blessed the land, and subjugated all the dark demonic forces of humans and nonhumans who harm the doctrine and sentient beings. Through the great power of his splendor, they are bound by oath to be allies. He turned the vast and profound wheel of dharma to the many fortunate followers - the Twenty-Five Disciples, the King and his subjects - and established them toward Enlightenment, the ultimate bliss.

In order to pacify and reverse the degenerate signs of natural calamities (famine, drought, earthquakes), he buried many termas all over Tibet, promising that future terma revealers and lineage holders with the karmic connections will continue to manifest until all of samsara is emptied. It is obvious that his enlightened activities are beyond comparison with any other awareness holders of Tibet and India.

Therefore, we, especially Tibetans, should hold in our hearts his inconceivable kindness and compassion towards all beings, which is beyond expression. It was during this day, June 20 (the 10th day of the 5th month in the Tibetan calendar), that the Master of Oddiyana was born spontaneously in Lake Dhanakosha of Northwest India, beyond the conditions of ordinary birth from a father and mother. It is on this special occasion, through the great merits of his form, the miraculous birth with its major and minor marks, that he first appeared in this world of Jambudvipa.

If one invokes with heartfelt devotion the enlightened mind of Guru Rinpoche through his heart-syllable mantra and the Seven Line Prayer, then the temporary calamities of pandemic, war, famine, and the like can be pacified and exhausted without trace. A new era endowed with perfect happiness and well-being will come, as set by the undeceiving prophecies of many past sublime ones.

Those who wish for the protection of this great master will always seize this special occasion, based on the infallible system of karma, cause, and result, to cultivate virtues, abandon negativities, and recite specifically the Seven Line Prayer and the Benzar Guru heart syllable mantra. If we conclude with special prayers and dedicate all virtues accumulated towards pacifying the current pandemic, then by the truth of Dharmata (the true nature of things) and the infallible interdependence of conditioned phenomena, this terrifying pandemic will be pacified into space. A new, prosperous day will dawn. Have no doubts! Please take this to heart.

Khen Namdrol Rinpoche, written on June 2nd, 2021 from Yangleshod, Nepal, the sacred place of Oddiyana Master, Guru Rinpoche.
