Practice Advice for all the Rigpa Sangha

Rigpa Vision Board

Rigpa’s Vision Board recently sent the following message containing current practice advice to Rigpa sangha members around the world.

Dear sangha friends,

We hope this message finds everyone well, and that your practice is flourishing, bringing you ever greater ease, fulfilment and insight.

As you know, the last few years have been a challenging time for the entire world and, in many ways, for our Rigpa Sangha as well. Amidst all the distractions and difficulties that are constantly occurring, it is so important for us as practitioners that we never lose sight of the Dharma as our true, unfailing source of refuge and protection. All the great masters of the past and present have time and again stressed the importance and efficacy of prayers and Dharma practices as having an incredible power to pacify obstacles and relieve suffering.

One great master with whom both Sogyal Rinpoche and the Rigpa Sangha have enjoyed a particularly close and warm connection is His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche. His Holiness’s exemplary qualities and immeasurable wisdom are acknowledged throughout the whole Tibetan Buddhist world. Rinpoche and the Sangha have so often turned to him for his support, guidance, and visionary insight. As a way of honouring that very special connection, we continue to appeal to His Holiness for advice at crucial moments in the Sangha’s development.

And as we look now towards the future, we recently requested His Holiness’s guidance and advice about what practices we should do to eliminate any obstacles for the Sangha, and to ensure that the legacy of the teachings held by Rigpa as a precious wish-fulfilling jewel is preserved without decline, and so continues to benefit countless living beings everywhere. H.H. Sakya Trichen Rinpoche has indicated that for the future of the Rigpa Sangha, and especially to remove any obstacles to the recognition of Sogyal Rinpoche’s reincarnation, the following practices and mantras should be accumulated by the sangha:

  • 100 million Vajra Guru mantras

  • 100,000 tsok offerings of the three roots

  • 1 million Vajrasattva mantras

As a sangha, we can join together to accomplish these prayers and also accumulate them during our own daily practice sessions, particularly the Vajra Guru and Vajrasattva mantras.

The 100,000 tsok offerings can be accomplished when we gather together for Khandro Tsering Chodron’s anniversary. More information is available here:

As you accumulate the mantras, please submit your numbers regularly here. In this way, we will be able to keep track of the Sangha’s accumulations worldwide.

Engaging in these practices wholeheartedly, with devotion to the Dharma and aspirations for the future of the Buddhadharma, there is no doubt that any obstacles for the Sangha and the future of Sogyal Rinpoche’s teachings and lineage will be completely pacified.

Yours in the Dharma,
Mauro de March and Seth Dye
